Borderline Minneapolis results and the limits of a home monitor
The funnel is still simple. A mail-in kit answers “what should I do first?” A continuous monitor answers “what does this closed heating season actually look like?” A licensed mitigator answers “the approved follow-up stayed high.”
Minnesota has a stricter rule on home monitors. MDH says consumer digital radon monitors usually cost about $100 to $200, have appealing live numbers, and haven’t been fully evaluated. They are not approved by the national proficiency programs. MDH does not recommend them during a real estate transaction or as the basis for a mitigation decision. Use an approved device, the kind described in MDH’s brochure, or hire a licensed measurement professional.
So where does a monitor fit? After a first kit lands near 4, while a long-term alpha-track is running, or when you want to see stack effect and dryer fans move the trace from week to week. Treat the screen as a diary. Let the approved test sign the decision. If that decision is to mitigate, the installer needs an MDH license, not a coupon.
